Identification of a 68-kilodalton protective protein antigen from Bordetella bronchiseptica.

A 68-kilodalton (kd) outer membrane protein antigen of Bordetella bronchiseptica has been identified by using monoclonal antibodies that recognized two nonoverlapping determinants. Antibody BB05 also reacted with homologous proteins from Bordetella pertussis and Bordetella parapertussis but not with another 12 organisms from various bacterial genera. Passive injection of BB05 antibody protected...

Protein Engineering with Biosynthesized Libraries from Bordetella bronchiseptica Bacteriophage

Phage display offers a powerful approach to engineer protein affinity. A naturally occurring analog to phage display, the Bordetella bronchiseptica bacteriophage (BP) employs a highly variable protein termed the major tropism determinant (Mtd) to recognize its dynamic host. Propagation of BP provides a self-made phage library (SMPL) with vast numbers of phage particles, each displaying a single...

Properties of R factors from Bordetella bronchiseptica.

Genetic properties and host ranges of R factors derived from Bordetella bronchiseptica of pig origin were examined. All of 61 R factors tested could confer resistance to streptomycin, sulfonamide, and aminobenzyl penicillin on their host bacteria. All of them were identified as fi(-) (no fertility inhibition) type and were found to exhibit no restriction of phages lambda, phi80, P1, P2, T1, T3,...

Bordetella bronchiseptica bronchitis.

The clinical course of a patient with bronchitis caused by Bordetella bronchiseptica is described. The organism was recovered on one occasion from a protected catheter brush specimen obtained at bronchoscopy and on two occasions from expectorated sputum specimens. The infection was eradicated with antimicrobial therapy.

Identification and regulation of cold-inducible factors of Bordetella bronchiseptica.

The expression of bacterial cold-shock proteins (CSPs) is highly induced in response to cold shock, and some CSPs are essential for cells to resume growth at low temperature. Bordetella bronchiseptica encodes five CSPs (named CspA to CspE) with significant amino acid homology to CspA of Escherichia coli. In contrast to E. coli, the insertional knock-out of a single csp gene (cspB) strongly affe...
